In appreciation of the members of staff of the St. Catherine Parish Council, on the afternoon of Friday, July 29, His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Norman Scott sponsored an inaugural summer treat in, for the children of the members of staff, at Emancipation Square, Spanish Town.

MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT TOURS ST. CATHERINE PARISH COUNCIL’S FACILITIES
Minister of Local Government, Hon. Desmond McKenzie visited the St. Catherine Parish Council offices on Friday, July 29 where he engaged the Chairman, Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott and his team in a prolonged tour of Parish Council facilities.
The St Elizabeth Parish Council and Black River Chapter of the St Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce partnered for the annual Black River Day held on Saturday, July 30.
The event is described by organisers as the “biggest street festival in Jamaica”.
At its fourth staging guests were treated to activities including a kiddies’ village, gospel concert, daytime street party, carnival village, night stage show, and opportunities for shopping.

A meeting of the Portmore Emergency Operation Center (PEOC) was held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at approximately 6:00 pm in the Council’s Conference Room to brief agencies about the tropical wave that was expected to cause significant rainfall on the island which may result in flooding of areas within the Portmore .
OLD HABOUR MARKET COMPLETELY BURNT
The St. Catherine Parish Council controlled, Old Harbour Market, situated at East Street, Old Harbour, was completely destroyed after an overnight blaze on Friday, July 15, 2016.
Efforts are presently being made by the Council to accommodate vendors in a common open space.

RE: BUILDING APPROVAL AMNESTY
Please be advised that the Portmore Municipal Council (PMC) will be embarking on a Building Approval Amnesty for the Municipality of Portmore.
Effective JULY 19, 2016, persons who are in contravention of the Parish Council Building Act and the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) by doing construction without an approved building plan will have an opportunity to remedy this problem through the Building Approval Amnesty.
