Jersey Day at the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation
Members of Staff St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, on Friday, October 13, 2017, wore Jerseys of their favourite club/country teams in support of breast cancer awareness month. This was a timely venture as it tied in well with the cross island run. They were also on hand to cheer the athletes as they entered the park and passed on the messages to Mayor Scott.
Heritage Week celebrations
Heritage Week celebrations commenced with a church service at the St. James Cathedral, Spanish Town on Sunday, October 8, 2017.
This was followed by a tribute to the Ancestors, a civic ceremony held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Phillippo Baptist Church.

ST. CATHERINE’S LEG OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY MONTH CROSS ISLAND RUN A SUCCESS
The month of November is each year recognised as Local Government & Community Month. As customary, a series of activities have been planned to increase awareness and highlight the work of the Local Government Ministry and its agencies.
Mayor of Kingston, Senator Delroy Williams says that the city is losing millions of dollars in amusement fees, on a monthly basis.
Mayor Williams, who declared earlier this year that the entertainment and promotions industry needs order and structure, stated in a release that several promoters are hosting events without the proper permits, while others are being crafty in evading paying the fees.

The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) recently coordinated with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development to stage an inaugural Cross Island Run which commenced in Kingston.
MONTEGO BAY, St. James (September 29, 2017): Hundreds of persons are expected to benefit from free medical services at the 24th annual Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister Cities Health Mission, which is to be hosted at the St. John’s Methodist Community Action Centre at Humber Avenue in Montego Bay from October 9 to 11, 2017.
MONTEGO BAY, St. James (September, 2017): The St James Municipal Corporation is requesting nominations for the 2017 Sam Sharpe Awards which honors exceptional individuals across the western parish.
The Sam Sharpe Awards seeks to identify and highlight persons for their outstanding contribution to the social, cultural, economic or political development of St James. The awards are also open to persons from the parish residing abroad.

St. Catherine Infirmary to take on Social Cases from Spanish Town Hospital
The Ministry of Health through its agency, National Health Fund (NHF) donated Four Million Dollars to help the St Catherine Municipal Corporation provide alternative accommodation for (26) social cases from the Spanish Town Hospital to the St. Catherine Infirmary.
The symbolic cheque was on Friday, September 15, handed over at an official ground breaking ceremony for construction of the new ward on the Infirmary premises, the section that houses the old chapel.
