Kingston’s Mayor Dr. Angela Brown Burke recently spear-headed the contract signing ceremony for the KSAC’s Family Park at the project site inside St William Grant Park.
The eco-friendly park, which will comprise playground and recreational facilities, will utilise old tyres and more than 1.5 million plastic bottles to create play equipment and structures.
So far, 650,000 plastic bottles have been collected from businesses and individuals within the Kingston and St Andrew municipality and rural areas.

Her Worship the Mayor of Kingston, Senator and Councillor Dr Angela Brown Burke, J.P. has expressed outrage at the murder of Jamaica College third-form student, 14-year-old Nicholas Francis, who was stabbed and killed on a bus during a robbery yesterday afternoon.
While expressing heartfelt condolences to the parents, family and schoolmates of young Nicholas, Mayor Brown Burke appealed to criminals to leave our children alone.
Special District Constable Sworn In
Althea Bernard, Municipal Police, St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, on Thursday, October 20th, under the Constables (Special) Act, took the Parish Special Constable Oath in the Mayor’s Parlour, Emancipation Square, Spanish Town, and was sworn in as Parish Special Constable for the parish of St. Catherine.

Fifteen (15) Recognized At Heroes Day Civic Ceremony And Awards Function
Approximately 15 persons were yesterday recognized for their various contributions to the development of the Jamaican society at the St Catherine Parish Council/JCDC Heroes Day Civic Ceremony and Awards Function at Emancipation Square Spanish Town.
Among them was Isaiah Laing, who was recognized for his contribution to uniformed group/culture and education, Nigel Powell, Culture (music) and Rev. Sandra Nembhard, Community Development.
PARISH CHURCH SERVICE KICKED OFF NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK
Several representatives consisting of agencies, service groups and volunteers came together for worship on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the St. Catherine Parish Council/JCDC hosted parish church service in commemoration of National Heritage Week.
The ecumenical service which was held under the theme “our heritage…our legacy…our strength” was held at The Worship Centre, 61 Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine.
Council staged Debriefing Subsequent to Hurricane Matthew
Following the de-activation of the St. Catherine Emergency Operations Centre on Tuesday, October 04, a debriefing was held in the Council’s meeting room on Friday October 07, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting was convened by chairman of the Parish Council and Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott. The Custos Rev. the Hon. Jeffery McKenzie was also in attendance.
