Youth Councillors selected to represent the Manchester Municipal Corporation in the 15 parochial divisions along with their teachers attend the October 12, 2017 sitting of the Corporation’s meeting in preparation for their Youth Council meeting to be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Corporation. Youth Councils are held in local authorities annually during the November, Local Government & Community Month.
Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, says there will be a strong focus on community, as the Ministry celebrates Local Government and Community Month in November.
“We have stressed the importance of community development because it is important that people understand that the Ministry is not just about cleaning drains. It is not just about providing allocation for councillors… but we do have community development as an integral part of the Ministry’s portfolio agenda,” Mr. McKenzie said.
November is celebrated as Local Government Month and as a gesture to promote awareness among our youth on matters relevant to Local Governance and the roles and responsibilities of such, the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will be hosting students from various schools throughout the Municipality for its 2017 Junior Council Forum under the theme, “Local Governance: the pathway to securing Better Communities.”
